Water, Walking and Will Power

I received an email the other day from a very happy woman.  She was experiencing real success for the first time in her life, regarding healthy living, and wanted to thank me for the help that I had given her along the way through the insight that she received from The Inner Diet and from reading my articles.  As long as I have been doing this, it still brings a big smile to my face whenever someone tells me that something I did, said or wrote was helpful.  That kind of positive feedback is the very fuel that keeps helpers, like yours truly, motivated and eager to serve.

Anyway, this particular woman shared with me something that she had learned during her long and challenging journey.  After a lifetime of reading all the books, trying all the diets and investing in far too many pieces of exercise equipment; she said that she could sum up the formula for success in one statement.  She called her winning formula the 3 Ws of successful weight loss – Water, Walking and Will Power!

As I read those words, I couldn’t help but nod my head in agreement.  Her 3 Ws turn out to be the very cornerstones of weight loss success.  Let’s take these 3 Ws one at a time.  First you have Water.  You simply can’t make this happen without drinking water.  The experts recommend at least 8 eight ounce glasses (64 ounces total) of water daily as a minimum.  But, if you can learn to make water your best friend, you will speed up your weight loss and move yourself miles down Health Highway.

Her second W was Walking.  Walking is an excellent way to burn calories and lose weight.  But, it doesn’t have to be walking.  You can engage in any activity that works your body and increases your heart rate but exercise, of some sort, is critical to successful lifestyle change and long-term weight loss.  And not only will exercise help you lose weight but the endorphins that are released in your brain during exercise will actually make you feel better and more optimistic as well.

The final W in this formula for success is Will Power.  The term “will power” can be defined as many things perhaps but, when all is said and done, it is the internal fortitude that allows you to choose wisely when tempted and persevere when frustrated.  In my opinion, will power is something that we all have inside us just waiting to be mined, harnessed and released.

So, if you are one of those people who are struggling with weight loss, why not embrace the 3 Ws.  Water, Walking and Will Power provide the three legs to this healthy living stool and will take you to a place that I might call the 4th W.  That place would be somewhere…Wonderful!
